A mysterious creature of the Himalayas

The Yeti is a mysterious creature that lives in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal. It resembles an ape and is covered with long white hair. The Yeti is tall and walks on two legs, moving like a human and leaving gigantic footprints in the snow behind it.

The 1938 encounter

In 1938, Captain d’Auvergne, a respected scholar and curator of the Victoria Memorial in Calcutta, India, was traveling alone in the Himalayas. The white color of the snow, which reflects light and ultraviolet rays, suddenly caused him to lose his sight, accompanied by intense pain (snow blindness). Someone came to his aid, carried him into a cave, and took care of him. As the captain’s eyesight gradually returned, he discovered that his rescuer was a large Yeti. He regained his strength and was able to return home.
