Elle poss\u00e8de une cro\u00fbte, un manteau, et peut-\u00eatre un noyau de fer.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui les donn\u00e9es sismiques ont permis de d\u00e9terminer la structure de la Lune\u00a0: sa cro\u00fbte a une \u00e9paisseur de 60 km sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 face visible et 100 km c\u00f4t\u00e9 face cach\u00e9e. Le manteau a une \u00e9paisseur d\u2019environ 1 000 km et le noyau de 700 km de rayon.<\/p>\n<p>Expos\u00e9 sans protection d\u2019une atmosph\u00e8re aux rayons du Soleil, le sol de la Lune grille et g\u00e8le sans interruption. La temp\u00e9rature varie entre 110 <sup>0<\/sup>C le jour et \u2013 170 <sup>0<\/sup>C la nuit. Et comme aucune enveloppe atmosph\u00e9rique n\u2019entoure la Lune, les m\u00e9t\u00e9orites ne se d\u00e9sint\u00e8grent pas et toutes atteignent le sol lunaire \u00e0 grande vitesse et \u00e9rodent ses reliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Situ\u00e9e \u00e0 384 000 km de la Terre, la Lune d\u00e9crit une orbite elliptique en 29 jours, 12 heures et 44 minutes. Elle pr\u00e9sente toujours la m\u00eame face \u00e0 la Terre. Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est d\u00fb \u00e0 son mouvement de rotation sur elle- m\u00eame\u00a0: la Lune met exactement le m\u00eame temps \u00e0 tourner sur elle- m\u00eame qu\u2019autour de la Terre et elle nous montre toujours la m\u00eame face. L\u2019autre face, on l\u2019appelle la face \u201ecach\u00e9e\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>En 1996, les scientifiques ont annonc\u00e9 une nouvelle\u00a0: sur la Lune existe de la glace, cach\u00e9e peut-\u00eatre au fond de crat\u00e8res, situ\u00e9s sur sa face cach\u00e9e. Cette th\u00e9orie a \u00e9t\u00e9 confirm\u00e9e en 1998 par la sonde Lunar Prospector. Depuis, plusieurs sondes ont photographi\u00e9 la face cach\u00e9e de la Lune. Les photos montrent qu\u2019elle est cribl\u00e9e par des crat\u00e8res et pr\u00e9sente peu de mers.<\/p>\n<p>Les premiers observateurs de la Lune, ont appel\u00e9 les grandes taches sombres visible \u00e0 sa surface, des \u201emers\u201c. Mais ces mers ne contiennent pas d\u2019eau. En r\u00e9alit\u00e9, ce sont d\u2019\u00e9normes plaines que la lave, jaillie des profondeurs lunaires, a rempli il y a 3 milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es. D\u2019autres r\u00e9gions sur la surface de la Lune paraissent plus claires. Ces zones, appel\u00e9es des \u201econtinents\u201c, sont des cha\u00eenes de montagnes, cribl\u00e9es de crat\u00e8res form\u00e9s apr\u00e8s des impacts avec d\u2019autres corps c\u00e9lestes. La Lune n\u2019a pas d\u2019atmosph\u00e8re pour la prot\u00e9ger des ces impacts cosmiques. Elle s\u2019est fait bombarder sans cesse. Ces attaques de cailloux cosmiques ont pulv\u00e9ris\u00e9 les roches lunaires sur sa surface et elle est recouverte d\u2019une couche de poussi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019homme est fascin\u00e9 par la Lune depuis toujours. De nombreux savants et astronomes tentent de percer ses myst\u00e8res et donner des r\u00e9ponses concernant ses origines et sa formation.<\/p>\n<p><em>Aristarque de Samos <\/em>(v. 310- 230 av.J.-C.), l\u2019astronome grec qui a exprim\u00e9 l\u2019id\u00e9e de la rotation de la Terre\u00a0;<\/p>\n<p><em>Nicolas Copernic<\/em> (1473- 1543), l\u2019astronome polonais, qui d\u00e9montra le mouvement des plan\u00e8tes sur elles- m\u00eame et autour du Soleil\u00a0;<\/p>\n<p>Galill\u00e9e (1564- 1642), l\u2019astronome italien, qui d\u00e9couvrit les lois du mouvement pendulaire et qui confirma les th\u00e8ses de Copernic\u00a0;<\/p>\n<p><em>Johannes Kepler<\/em> (1571- 1630), l\u2019astronome allemand qui \u00e9non\u00e7a les lois du mouvement des plan\u00e8tes autour du Soleil, qui ont donn\u00e9 leur nom \u00e0 un crat\u00e8re lunaire.<\/p>\n<p>Le crat\u00e8re <em>\u00c9<\/em><em>ratosth\u00e8ne<\/em> porte le nom de l\u2019astronome, math\u00e9maticien et g\u00e9ographe grec \u00c9ratosth\u00e8ne (v. 276- v. 194 av. J.- C), qui r\u00e9alisa la premi\u00e8re mesure relativement exacte de la circonf\u00e9rence de la Terre. <em>Le crat\u00e8re <\/em><em>\u00c9<\/em><em>ratosth\u00e8ne<\/em>, l\u2019un des plus grands sur la Lune, a \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9 apr\u00e8s l\u2019impact violent avec un m\u00e9t\u00e9orite.
