The village of Tyulenovo

The village of Tyulenovo is located in northeastern Bulgaria, in the municipality of Shabla. Its old name is Kalach kyoi (“Sickle Village”). In 1942, the village was renamed Tyulenovo, the reason being the herds of monk seals. Caves, winds, low rocks and sheltered places favored their presence. The seals ate fish and reached sexual maturity at 4 years of age. Their pregnancy lasted 11 months. They gave birth to their young in caves with an entrance, in many cases underwater.

For a number of reasons, they disappeared in 1997 – unrest, water pollution, massacres, pesticides and others.

The coast of Tyulenovo is unforgettable for its visitors. The shores are red and steep descending 20-30 meters down the sea. The place is suitable for adventurers – scuba diving and rock climbing, as well as for fishing – there are mullet(fish), horse mackerel, gobius and others.
